Olancho is slightly larger than Maryland and is the biggest department in Olancho. In many respects, it is the least developed. Agriculture is the main industry including corn, cattle, and dairy farms.
Juticalpa is located 100 miles north-east of Tegucigalpa, about a 3 hour drive. The city was built in a valley alongside Rio Juticalpa. The town has a hospital, main square, and Cathedral along with many churches, restaurants, and family owned stores called pulperias. The population of Juticalpa is 130,000.
