Reasons to Volunteer with Olancho Aid!
Check out our list of reasons YOU should consider volunteering with the Olancho Aid Foundation as told by former and current volunteers.
Reason #6: You’ll be immersed in a new culture!
“My favorite part of being in Juticalpa is learning all I can about Honduran culture. I love to learn Honduran slang and observe different mannerisms. It is fascinating to realize how different a culture can be from your own, but also how similar.” – Rachael, Fall 2018 Volunteer
Reason #5: You’ll make memories!
“There are so many! Traveling, special events at the school, Zumba Friday at the office.. the list goes on and on!” – Megan, 2015-2017 Volunteer Coordinator
Reason #4: You’ll make lifelong friendships!
“I met the most incredible people during my time in Juticalpa, and getting to share a year of my life with them is one of my biggest joys. Everyone at Olancho Aid welcomed me with open arms, and when I left at the end of the year, it truly felt like I was saying goodbye to my family. I learned so much from my colleagues at school, my friends in the office, my students, and my fellow volunteers, and I will always carry with me these relationships and the memories we made. Together, every new day was an adventure and it’s one I’m so glad I got the chance to experience.” – Katie, 2017-2018 Volunteer
Reason #3: You’ll learn new skills!
“I have definitely learned how to be more patient and flexible because there are many situations in which things don’t go as planned and you’re forced to adapt quickly. I have also learned how to communicate with so many different types of people, and my time there also showed me a taste of what living on my own is like since I had never really done it before.” – Savannah, Summer 2018 Volunteer
Reason #2: You’ll build lasting relationships!
“My favorite part about my time with Olancho Aid was teaching and getting to know the students really well inside and outside of the classroom through meaningful conversations, jokes, spiritual activities, playing board games, sports, etc. I learned so much from them and, hopefully, they learned from me, as well, and not just in terms of academics. I grew to love my students and they became a very important part of my time there. Thanks to this experience, God confirmed in a special way my desire to dedicate my life to teaching and ministering especially to young people.” – Bryan, 2016-2017 Volunteer
Reason #1: You’ll make a difference in a student’s life!
“When I decided to retire from my job as a teacher last spring, I knew that I wanted to continue to teacher. Then when I found the Olancho Aid Foundation, I knew that I wanted to become a part of this amazing organization which has been changing this part of the world through education for many years. It has been a joy to teach at one of their high schools. The dedication that I see to providing a superior bilingual education is a blessing for all involved, and to me in particular.” – Karen, Fall 2018 Volunteer
