Christmas Arrives!
Standing in front of my window I watched the stars. They looked more beautiful than any other day and there was something outside in the air that told me that it was not an ordinary day. The world had the special vibe that everyone could recognize; it was Christmas. For many of us it’s the best time of the year, full of combined feelings that mix between the nostalgia of wanting to return to a time and place where we were happy and the joy of living in the present. Every second that passes, each moment becomes part of our memory, and many can’t wait for Christmas to arrive. Maybe it’s because we are tired of sadness and this is the only time that succeeds in spreading enthusiasm over the world.
However, there are people who are still confused to believe that these days are based in receiving the best gifts. Or, some get drunk until they blackout, seeking to fill gaps caused by the absence of love. They say that the holiday has lost its essence and that nothing is as before. Families no longer share, sadness is present, and joy disappears. Time passes and traditions are prejudiced.
But Christmas keeps waking up in myself feelings that I find it hard to describe. To me this simple word, so easy to say, has an incredible meaning. Even if I could speak every language in the world and make all the combinations of existing words, I could not explain how much it means to me. While I was reflecting on my own memories, I felt that the only thing I could do was talk to my most loyal friend, Jesus. I said,” Oh Jesus! It has been hard to contain the desire to go back to my childhood and relive my naive childhood experiences. I want to remember the true Christmas spirit. Help me to accept the things that I cannot change, bring hope to those who feel lonely, illuminate the path of the young, and find the true purpose of Christmas. Clarify our minds so that the world becomes detached from its daily lies and help us to understand that the reason to celebrate is your birth. Please Jesus! Make us remember that you are our Savior. Don’t let us forget it. Amen…”
As I finished my prayer, I looked up to the sky again and I felt that my prayer had been heard. A special star caught my attention. Its light spread peace over the midnight sky as if Jesus was telling me, “My son, keep calm, because I’m with you.”
This made me realize that Christmas definitely is the best time of the year.
