For decades, Olancho Aid has worked alongside students, families, educators, communities, and partners to expand educational opportunity in Honduras.
Our 2026–2030 Strategic Plan defines where we are going next.
Over the next five years, we will strengthen the quality and reach of our educational programs, deepen local and international partnerships, expand opportunities for students beyond the classroom, and build the organizational capacity needed to sustain this work for generations to come.
Publishing this plan is part of our commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship. We invite our community, partners, supporters, and friends to understand not only what we hope to accomplish, but how we plan to get there.

Education Remains at the Center
Our strategy begins with a simple principle: education is at the heart of Olancho Aid’s mission.
The five priorities in this plan are not separate projects. Together, they form one integrated strategy for strengthening educational opportunity and ensuring that Olancho Aid has the resources, relationships, leadership, and systems necessary to sustain that mission over time.
Our Five Strategic Priorities:
Transformative, Inclusive, High-Quality Education
Strengthening learning across Nazareth School and Cardenal Institute.
Education is Olancho Aid’s primary pathway for expanding opportunity and contributing to the long-term well-being of Olancho.
Over the next five years, we will strengthen academic quality across both schools while continuing to recognize that every student’s path toward growth and independence may look different.
Our priorities include:
- Expanding professional development for teachers and strengthening academic systems.
- Improving curriculum alignment, instructional planning, and student assessment.
- Integrating appropriate educational technology and innovative teaching practices.
- Expanding psychological, behavioral, speech, and communication support at Nazareth.
- Strengthening inclusive classroom practices and practical life-skills pathways.
- Increasing family engagement to reinforce learning and therapy at home.
- Creating stronger transition pathways between Nazareth and Cardenal.
- Expanding English-language learning at Cardenal.
- Developing workforce-readiness, AI skills, entrepreneurship, vocational learning, and practical educational experiences.

The Global Exchange Platform and Strategic Partnerships
Building a bridge between Olancho and a global community.
Olancho Aid’s international relationships have long connected people across countries, cultures, professions, and institutions.
Over the next five years, we will develop the Global Exchange Platform as one of Olancho Aid’s most distinctive strategic assets: not simply a visitor program, but a platform for learning, collaboration, professional exchange, and long-term partnership.
Our priorities include:
- Welcoming more university groups, fellows, interns, professionals, and other Global Exchange participants.
- Continuously strengthening program preparation, execution, and participant experience.
- Connecting international participants more intentionally with educational, vocational, and therapeutic initiatives.
- Creating pathways for visitors to become long-term advocates, supporters, and partners.
- Strengthening the Global Exchange Center as the operational and experiential base of the program.
- Expanding opportunities for Olancho Aid students to participate in hospitality, cooking, service, and program-support experiences.
- Developing educational partnerships that strengthen therapy, English-language learning, vocational preparation, workforce readiness, and teaching.
- Engaging external expertise to strengthen both educational and organizational capacity.

Over the next five years, Olancho Aid will strengthen its relationships throughout Olancho to expand student opportunity, deepen community participation, and support students as future professionals, leaders, neighbors, and contributors to the region.
Our priorities include:
- Building partnerships that expand access to education, scholarships, and student opportunities.
- Strengthening relationships with local businesses and organizations.
- Creating vocational learning, mentorship, internship, and workforce-readiness opportunities.
- Expanding student leadership and service-learning experiences.
- Supporting community-based educational projects that respond to authentic local priorities.
- Encouraging students to identify needs and participate in meaningful local initiatives.

Over the next five years, Olancho Aid will strengthen the fundraising, communications, and institutional identity systems that allow our educational mission to grow responsibly.
Our priorities include:
- Building stronger systems for donor stewardship and relationship management.
- Diversifying funding so the organization becomes less dependent on any single source of support.
- Expanding individual giving, major donor development, grants, and foundation support.
- Strengthening parish, institutional, corporate, government, and other mission-aligned partnerships.
- Developing the Global Exchange Platform as both an educational asset and a pathway toward long-term engagement.
- Clarifying the relationship among Olancho Aid, Nazareth School, Cardenal Institute, and Global Exchange.
- Developing a clearer and more unified organizational narrative.
- Strengthening bilingual institutional communications.
- Expanding impact storytelling and reporting.
- Improving the strategic use of our website, email, social media, and other digital channels.
- Creating stronger communications workflows and systems that support consistency and accountability.

Investing in fundraising and communications is not separate from our educational mission. It helps build the relationships, trust, visibility, and financial stability required to sustain that mission for the long term.
Organizational Stability, Leadership, and Systems
Building an organization prepared for the future.
Strong educational programs require a strong organization behind them.
As Olancho Aid grows in scale and complexity, we must also strengthen the leadership, systems, financial stewardship, governance, and accountability necessary to support responsible growth.
Our priorities include:
- Investing in leadership development and succession readiness.
- Clarifying organizational roles, responsibilities, and decision-making authority.
- Strengthening leadership capacity in Honduras.
- Improving institutional documentation and knowledge transfer.
- Strengthening budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Improving administrative systems, workflows, technology, and operational infrastructure.
- Strengthening coordination between Olancho Aid’s U.S. and Honduran operations.
- Developing stronger systems for monitoring, evaluation, and organizational learning.
- Establishing meaningful performance indicators and regular strategic reviews.
- Strengthening Board governance and strategic engagement.
- Completing key organizational and legal transition work necessary to protect Olancho Aid’s mission, assets, and long-term independence.

How We Are Investing
Our largest new strategic investment is education.
At the same time, we are intentionally investing in fundraising, leadership, communications, partnerships, and organizational systems because educational progress must also be financially and institutionally sustainable.
An important distinction
The figures above represent new Strategic Plan investments only. They do not include Olancho Aid’s existing operating expenses.
Across the five-year period, approximately $5.05 million is projected for existing operations, representing roughly 89% of total planned expenses. These operating costs primarily support Olancho Aid’s schools, programs, staff, and ongoing mission activities.
The Strategic Plan adds targeted investments on top of that existing work to strengthen what we do today and prepare the organization for what comes next.

The Strategic Plan establishes our direction, but implementation will continue to evolve. Annual priorities, budgets, timelines, responsibilities, and performance measures will be refined as we learn and as circumstances change.
Our commitment is to remain aligned with the strategy while continuing to evaluate what works, what needs to improve, and where new opportunities emerge. Over time, this page will also become a place to share progress toward the goals outlined in the plan.
